After Tiveden we followed the picturesque Gota Canal to Lake Vanern. More like an inland sea...In a brief but very heavy downpour we found a small settlement by the shore pretty much abandoned for the winter despite it being only the start of autumn. The lake stretched out like a huge puddle of mercury with no discernible demarcation between the water and sky. Eerie.
Dasland, around on the opposite side of the lake was our next days destination. Made it with the help of a motorcycle gang who helped us decipher the instructions on the petrol pumps. In Dasland, more lakes and canals and woodland. We could have parked up in any number of top spots. Another peaceful night then onto the west coast with its unusual rocky shoreline and islets. Two more days winding our way through fishing villages and more upmarket holiday resorts and we were back in Gothenborg getting bamboozled by the motorway system and finding the GPS was not up with the times. At last arrived at Anders and Lisettes' place who we had met in the States and kept in touch with, for a wonderful Swedish dinner.
After returning the van the next day and a very brief look about central Gothenborg, we caught the train to Lund...
First of many Swedish lakes! So still and clear and silent
There are 6 or so of these campfires beside the lake. The grill swings over hd fire. In he background are wooden corrals for keeping horses in when you camp overnight, there are 100s of Km's of trails through Tivedins National Park and forests beyond
Spruces mainly, grow up through the rocks and boulders strewn throughout the park. Its all cushioned with beautifully lush mosses
The silvery white moss is Reindeer Moss
First camping spot, a little lake all to ourselves
Trollkyrka, the true original place of the Trolls. Stories have it that Trolls are peaceful beings deelling in holes and caves. However if you anger them they may turn you to stone!
Real Troll terrain
Some of the boulders are really huge with large caverns below
This huge dome is Trollkyrka Mountain, the highest point in the park at 200m.
At the close proximity to Troll country Murray reverted to type... And if you can't beat them, join them!
Little village along the Gota canal
A huge friendly cat followed us for ages. Thinking of our lovely Ruby (formerly Screebs) lovingly adopted by Mary and Kerry
Scored this stunning spot to stay the night
We did walk a small section of the pilgrim trail...
