Big Day Out

The other day we broke out of our placid existence in the retiree village of Consolaçáo, walked into Peniche and hired a little Peugeot for 24 hrs. We headed inland 20 km to Obidos, famous for its medieval castle and city walls.

Old beauties like this come to rest around the river bank

In Obidos, the Mother Church of St Maria, 12th Century

Beautiful blue and white tiles added in 1600s

Painting added 1700's, making a fairly rich assortment of embellishment à la renaissance

Classic cobbled street

Classic ceramic piece

Castle walls, great views as you can on them right around the city about 10m high.

We went on to Nazaré and had a swim at the long white surf beach. These fish are drying on racks, sold by ladies in pinnies,  knitted capes and headscarves.
