Çirali and the Flames of Chimaera

Our home in Çirali

Kitchen and dining...as we walked down 250m or so from the road having luckily scored a ride in a ute from the bus stop it was getting dark and Yassar who loves here was grilling fresh fish over the fire for dinner. Perfect timing. The next night he made steamed whole fish in a sealed clay lidded pot, cooked over slowly sautéed onions, potatoes and peppers; the fish lies on a layer of sliced tomatoes above  the simmering tomato, paprika and chili liquor. Fresh and delicious after a day out exploring.

Diana our lovely German/Greek hostess.

Our transportation

Bikes Diana brought over with her from Germany

Heavenly fresh juice stalls. Pomegranates or oranges hand pressed while you wait

Perfect....

At the beach

Mt Olympos and another section of Lycian Way that we wandered for an hour or so along the coast

Particularly nice scenery!

We then biked up to the start of the steps jp to The eternal flames of Chimaera... burning methane from metamorphic rock or fire from the mouth of the mythical Chimaera...take your pick.

This could be the spot where woman first discovered how to fry eggs.

The high point of the track up to the upper Chimaera, and far enough for one day. We timed it to be getting dusk but still make it back home on the bikes with our 2Lira shop torches.

Nell's contemporary work....Heart of Stone.  (Note infarction)

Old temple ruins at Chimaera

Blocks from the temple scattered about. Some people were meditating, alongside others grilling nasty looking savaloys on sticks.
