On the cusp of Asia

Coming across the Bosphorus on the ferry from the airport. Things look serene but there is a palpable sense of being sucked into a swirling cauldron. You can feel why the city features in many spy novels.

M leant a little hard on this place.

Retirement Place15....this place would be a retirement palace

Or perhaps this one

Minarets of the Blue Mosque in night lights

The Hippodrome with one of the Egyptian columns. It loosely translates to 'double camel burger...now available for a limited time'

They like pointy sculptures here

Fish market... The pink ones with spots are Turbot.

The old wall to keep out the barbarians

Where there's fish there are cats... Evening haunt for all the strays

Another pointy thingy
Outer court of the Blue Mosque

The complex of columns radiating out from the four central supports holds up layers of progressively smaller domes giving the impression that instead of being separate, the ceilings and walls intermingle. It's an exquisite and ethereal ambience

Painted detailing

Close up of the carved doors with inset timbers and mother of pearl

From the gardens outside

This is down inside the cistern built in 500 AD to store fresh water for the city from the hills 30k away.
It was very impressive though hard to capture on film.
