Slovenia
We're staying in a little village called Doslovce low on the Karavanke alps, up above Bled. Our airbnb place is tucked in among tiny old farms and tho it looks traditional is new with state of the art James Bond type technology and fittings. Host lent us ( new) mountain bikes and we explored for the day. Wonderful colourful gardens all favouring produce over ornamental so staked tomatoes along the front of a house, bean frames filling a front garden, apples and pears espaliered and over archways with flowering hydrangeas in any spare spot. We biked across to the Vintgar gorge, gorgeous! After 2 hour meandering through bike trails we were expecting a little known treasure but no we came around the last bend and there were 5 buses and about 100 cars. Constant stream of people but it was still beautiful, cool and peaceful. Spent the afternoon lazing by the lake in Bled then biked home, via a complex route of bike tracks, golf course, farm tracks and villages that the host uses, in the relative cool of evening. Not used to steep hills on bikes! But recovered after a cold beer and shower.
