We had Our Laziest day Ever meaning not leaving the air conditioned house til 4, to go down and buy food in the village from the kind ladies at the store. Climbed up the 800m hills behind the village in the evening though and missed our way coming down and finished up in the wrong village.
From our researching during the day we had discovered that the Triglav national park and the Julien Alps are close by so with the help of our host booked ourselves into two Koca. We then worked out how to get there which meant a 5:30 am rising to catch buses and get started before the hottest day in Slovenian history (39) kicked in.
8 am Walking through the village at the start of the trail, Stara Fuzina, farms are intermingled with homes right beside them. As you walk past what looks like a barn-like house, a neigh, bleat or moo may softly emerge.
Idyllic start up this trail with the tourist attraction 'Elephant' rock (5 euros to walk this way)
Dramatic chasms all the way up
Holiday chalets an hour's walk but with road access also. Getting a bit hot.
2 1/2 hours in a barley risotto with sausage seemed necessary along with chilled beer
4 hours, 800m up; Murray says 'who the hell's idea was this? We could be lying on a bloody beach'
It's impressive and its shady. A bit higher up its actually a lot cooler, pleasant with a light fresh breeze
Fields of wildflowers....
Walking / climbing for 5 hours now through dramatically varied terrains. This uphill trail wound through tall spires of wildflowers. The air was scented and full of the lazy buzz of bumble bees.
2000 m and 7 hours. We were really stuffed at this stage but luckily had backup supplies of salami and hard boiled eggs (thanks to Paul and Linda for this idea).
Change of terrain as we get up near the hut
At last... Vodnikov Dom
9 hours steep uphill, not too bad. Time for a Radler, half beer half grapefruit juice, our new favourite and a few catch up zzzzs. Wonderful day.
