Rif Valentino

YToday we set out ( encountering more horses) to walk around the Sasso group of montains. We chose the higher trail that passes around a contour up above the treeline mostly withgreat views out across the valleys but not high enough to need ropes etc. the Sasso looks completely different from each side, being actually like one huge split up mass, onto three massive main strips partially joined together. It was a really great but long day's walk, with quite remote sections and some sections near cable car points more like modern day Pilgrimage with babies, toddlers, dogs, bikinis and mountain bikers battling for trail space.the rifugio Valentino was a gracious old place undergoing renovations but the most luxurious yet, private room, marble bathroom, lovely food. Met lots of climbers. Decided heights and ropes are way too scary...

This is leaving Alpes des Tires in the morning

Lots of these needle formations made from limestone

The horses roam around in small herds. Who's got a new shirt then.

Fountain (of youth?)

The little cone on the end of the flat ridge on the right is where we walked from yesterday

Tiny wildflowers are everywhere

French gentleman at the top of the pass or it might have been a gnome.

My first sighting of Edelweiss! It's definitely small and white. Murray sang the song as we walked along this ridge, aaaawe it was nice...gee shucks.

Rounding the next pass can see across to the Sella Range. We headed to the left here back round the other side of the Sasso group and then eventually on down to our starting point again.
